DadPad: Quotes & Notes 2/22

by

You might not expect to hear from one of the most prominent feminists on the DadPad but I thought this quote from her was revealing and true:

Most American children suffer too much mother and too little father.
Gloria Steinem

Do you agree?  Why or why not?

  1. Adrian Bickley Says:

I agree. Fathers are paramount. They shape and mold even formalize the way kids see, understand and experience the world. Father must spend quality time with their kids. They have only one shot at it, which I have to be reminded over by my wife.

  2. Jeff Abramovitz Says:

Wives are good at those reminders ;). Seriously, you raise a good point when you talk about how we, as dads, help our kids “see, understand and experience” the world. Just today, my son called me to ask me what kind of oil does the old Explorer (which we’ve given him to drive at and after college) take? I think we take a lot of things for granted as dads that we think our kids know. But, then we stop and ask ourselves, how did we learn? And, if the answer is “we taught ourselves” we somehow think that’s how it’s supposed to be. Imagine how much better it would have been and how much more we would have learned if we had more dads who spent the time to “show us the ropes”. Thanks for the comment, Adrian.
